A presumptive condition is one VA presumes was caused by service when a veteran meets specific service, location, and time requirements. Presumptions remove the need to prove a medical nexus, which is often the hardest part of a claim.

What you still have to prove
Even with a presumption, you need a current diagnosis of a listed condition and qualifying service. Documenting deployment locations, dates, and duties is what usually determines whether the presumption applies.
If your condition is not on a presumptive list, it can still be service connected on a direct or secondary basis with supporting evidence.

Do presumptive claims still get denied?
Yes, most often when the record does not establish qualifying service or when the diagnosis does not match a listed condition.
Can I file again if I was denied before the PACT Act?
Veterans previously denied for a condition later added to a presumptive list generally can file a supplemental claim.
